Free Agent Joey Votto Recreates Sad Keanu Reeves Meme As He Waits for MLB Team to Call
Former Cincinnati Reds star Joey Votto still is looking for a new employer.
Votto, who spent 17 years with the Reds, entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent after Cincinnati declined his $20 million option for 2024. But as spring training continues and Opening Day nears, Votto remains on the open market.
On Tuesday evening, Votto posted a picture of himself sitting on a park bench with a sandwich, coffee and a baseball bat, looking rather lonely.
“Missing ball,” he wrote as the caption.

The picture is an obvious reference to the sad Keanu Reeves meme that swept the internet in the early 2010s. A paparazzi photograph portrayed Reeves eating a sandwich on a park bench, looking just about as lonely as Votto.
Keanu Reeves addresses the ‘Sad Keanu’ meme: “I was thinking. I had some stuff going on. I was hungry.”

Votto nailed the look from head to toe.
As expected, Votto’s post began making the rounds on social media. And MLB fans all had the same reaction: Sign the man.
